GR-10 Photo-journey: Pt 2
In these two weeks we went from Refuge du Ruhle to Cabane de Sauneres.
Week 3:
Joe leans into the wind. Em shows off the next big thing in sock fashion.
This section/time of year was lousy with azalea flowers.
A little break
Joe tries to not get blown off the mountain. If you look closely, you can see his hair flying.
Sam under a random stone arch that can only be described as art
Grand views above the cloud layer
An epic cairn and horses
Approaching lunch with sun pockets lighting up the valley
We ate lunch in this hut because the cows are deeply salt starved and were very aggressive. When we first sat down under the boulder behind Sam’s left shoulder, they mobbed us while licking all our gear like junkies.
What? More flowers!??!
Light rain on the way up to the col had Sam hiking in his jacket
Joe framed this shot, “Dad, you’re gonna love this. We’ll walk down this path and you take our picture.” He wasn’t wrong.
A very fine looking building on our way to dinner.
Our apartment
Back into the woods
The moss should have tipped us off to the upcoming weather. It did not.
One of the many waterfalls
That’s how the moss stays so green
Me! With fog in my beard.
One of the steepest sections of trail we hiked on
A view down into the valley. We continually sung Pleader (How green was my valley) by Alt-j.
Week 4:
An elegant horse at lunch time
Mixed weather on the way up
We had thick fog on many days, especially in the beech forests.
This evening was spent in a cloud
But the morning was vibrant.
Just a nice lake on the way
I thought the col name was bit mean
Lunch near Maison du Valier
More B&W for variety
High above the valley
Dinner with the horses
This was the wettest day we had on the whole trail. Not everyone was happy.
Look who’s at the end of the rainbow again
The refuge hosts described this as a ‘mer de neige’, or a ‘sea of snow’.
More time above the clouds (thankfully)
Nearly every town had a water fountain and we frequently filled up a these awesome water sources.
Cresting the peak
This was the worst cabane we stayed in. Beautiful view but less than great interior.
Joe snuggled up for night
Sam slept in the gross attic after we swept it out. He reported that it was hot, but fine.
Sunset in front of the cabane
